Untitled-1The Ministry of Labor, Employment, Veteran and Social Affairs of the Government of the Republic of Serbia announced that the government adopted a strategy for social inclusion of Roma in the Republic of Serbia for the period from 2016 to 2025.


This document originated from the need to take on a systematic and comprehensive way issues of social inclusion of Roma enhance, both at national and local level.
According to the population census of 2011, in Serbia there are about 148,000 Roma, who are among the most vulnerable social groups.


The government's goal is that through the joint efforts of the whole society improve their position in order to reduce the disparities that exist between Roma and the rest of the population.

The newly adopted Strategy is a strategic document that will be for a period of nine years to intensify the work of the national and local level for social inclusion of Roma and combating their discrimination, and to create the conditions for access to the full realization of human rights of Roma.


The document covers five priority areas, namely education, housing, employment, health and social protection.
Serbia is on the road to joining the EU member states in terms of social inclusion of Roma.
In fact, our country as a basis for the development of this document benefited Framework for National Roma Integration Strategies by the European Commission, together with the European Parliament prescribed for its member countries, ensuring continued cooperation and continued support of the EU for Serbia to improve the position of Roma.


Operational conclusions from the third consecutive seminar on social inclusion of Roma in Serbia for the period from 2015 to 2017, that our country has prepared together with the European Commission, have become an integral part of this document.


Also, the draft strategy is aligned with the Action Plan for Negotiation Chapter 23, which relates to the judiciary and fundamental rights, in the process of Serbia's accession negotiations with the EU, explained in a statement.
